In a recent statement, Iran has firmly denied any involvement in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, asserting that the Houthi forces are autonomous and make independent decisions. Esmaeil Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, emphasized that Tehran does not meddle in Yemeni matters and dismissed allegations that connect Iran to recent events concerning Saudi Arabia and Yemen. According to Baghaei, the roots of the conflict lie deeply within Yemen itself.
The Iranian official also addressed the postponement of a significant meeting in Oman, which was to include Iran and several Gulf countries. This gathering, intended to tackle issues of regional security and cooperation, was delayed at the request of Saudi Arabia. Despite the setback, Baghaei noted that an understanding between Iran and Oman regarding maritime routes in the Strait of Hormuz had been successfully concluded, and both nations are determining their next steps.
Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr Albusaidi, further commented on the postponement, stating that it was done to foster consensus among the involved parties. He reaffirmed Oman’s dedication to dialogue, ensuring regional stability, and promoting long-term cooperative efforts.
The planned dialogue in Oman was set to offer a platform for Iran and Oman to present their agreement on the crucial maritime routes, which hold significance for international trade passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Although the regional meeting has been delayed, the finalized understanding between Iran and Oman stands as a testament to their collaborative progress in addressing maritime security concerns.
