Ukraine has executed one of its most extensive drone offensives against Russia since the conflict began, resulting in at least six fatalities and igniting a significant fire at a distribution center near Moscow. The Russian Defense Ministry reported intercepting 1,478 Ukrainian drones within a single day, marking the highest number documented over a 24-hour period, although these figures remain unverified independently. Moscow’s Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, indicated that approximately 600 drones targeted the Moscow region, with 201 reportedly neutralized. Tragically, one individual lost their life in the region.
A substantial fire erupted at a warehouse operated by Wildberries near Podolsk, about 25 miles south of Moscow’s core. The facility, spanning around 250,000 square meters, suffered extensive damage and was incapacitated, as noted by Ukraine’s military. Ukrainian forces have been increasingly deploying long-range drones to strike Russian military and economic targets far from the battlefield. Ukrainian authorities allege that several Wildberries facilities have been targeted due to their purported use in military logistics.
The incidents underscore Ukraine’s advancing capabilities in conducting long-range strikes, while Russia continues its heavy reliance on drones and missiles to assault Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Concurrent Russian strikes claimed at least seven lives in Ukraine, with casualties reported in Kryvyi Rih and the Sumy region. Additionally, a missile strike on Kyiv left six people wounded and incited fires at a major book market, leading to significant losses for several businesses.
In a related development, a Spanish fighter jet, part of a NATO patrol, reportedly downed a suspected Russian drone after it breached Romanian airspace, as confirmed by NATO officials. Amid these tensions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of persistently targeting civilian infrastructure, citing over 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided bombs, and 62 missiles launched against Ukraine in the preceding week.
This escalation reflects both nations’ expanded use of long-range weaponry, heightening the risk of casualties and widespread damage far beyond the front lines. The ongoing conflict continues to see both sides leveraging advanced military technology in their strategic offensives.
