Ukraine’s Leader to Trump: Your Mideast Success is Europe’s Hope

In a message blending congratulations with a profound appeal, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has positioned Donald Trump’s Middle East peace deal as Europe’s best hope for ending the war with Russia. Zelensky is calling for the US President to pivot his peacemaking focus to the conflict devastating his nation.
Following a direct phone call to congratulate Trump on the Gaza agreement, Zelensky has publicly amplified his praise. He termed the deal an “outstanding achievement” and a clear demonstration that even seemingly intractable wars can be stopped with the right leadership.
“If a war can be stopped in one region, then surely other wars can be stopped as well,” Zelensky declared, making an unmistakable connection to Russia’s invasion. He argued that the “momentum for advancing peace” must not be lost and should now be channeled towards Europe.
This appeal is part of a broader, coordinated diplomatic strategy. Zelensky has been in close contact with allies, including a lengthy discussion with Finland’s President Alex Stubb, to unify their messaging and present a common front in their call for renewed US engagement.
The appeal for diplomatic action is made all the more urgent by the situation on the ground. Zelensky reported on continued Russian attacks against civilian targets, emphasizing the need for both a peace process and the means to defend his people. He specifically called for more air defense systems to counter Russia’s “aerial terror” and create the leverage for genuine talks.
